Every Friday, one class hosts an assembly for children in the school. One Friday is for the Junior school, the following Friday for the Senior School. The class which is hosting the assembly presents their take on one aspect of the Learn Together Programme. It might be about Belief Systems or Ethics and the Environment. It could be about Morality and Spirituality or about something which illustrates issues of Equality and Justice. Today, it was the turn of Third class red. Caoimhe's class talked to us about Perseverence. They told us that we can learn more from failing than we do from success. The children reminded us about Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, who said that he had 10,000 failures before he managed to find the solution to his problem. He says I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work- Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. The children had a poem and a song to reinforce their message. Thanks Caoimhe and third class red, I am more determined than ever to get better at playing my new piano.I will get better once I don't give up . NO GIVING UP!!!! Esker ETNS and 6th Class Green are hosting a short ceremony to mark the passing of their classmate Arnas, who died after a long illness on New Years Day. We will get together to share our memories, happy, funny and sad, of Arnas on Wednesday 29th January, a day when he should have turned 13 years of age. We will look at photographs, sing a song or two and read a poem to help us focus on and remember Arnas' short but fulfilled life. Parents of 6th Class green are welcome to attend. The teachers who taught him and those who knew him well will be in attendance as well as members of the Board and the PTA. Arnas' brother and his aunt will be with us for the ceremony. Arnas' mother and father are in Lithuania but have sent us a beautiful message to read out to the children and the staff. They would very much like to be with us on this day. Following the ceremony, we will be planting a tree in the school grounds on Wednesday in his memory.
