In term 1 (concluding at the beginning of term 2) we learned to cycle. We learned about the importance of cycle safety, wearing helmets and high vis jackets. We learned about the rules of the road and cycle lanes, how to signal properly. We tested our skills by going on a cycle around the local environment with our instructors. 

Eight students from sixth class red and green took part in the South Dublin County Council library quiz on the 10th of March. The students were challenged to answer questions about literature, sport, general knowledge, history, geography, chocolate (Sarah's favourite round!) and the dingbats above- how many can you solve?

While sixth class green did a wonderful wintershowcase performance based on the value of "helpfulness" singing the Beatles song "I Get by With a Little Help from my Friends", the teachers also did a wonderful job of singing a Christmas song at the whole school assembly! 

We visited Dublin Castle where President Catherine Connolly was officially inaugurated just two weeks before our visit! We also visited the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham earlier this year where the other official presidential engagements took place. We had a concrete understanding of where these events were held because we had been there ourselves. We saw a dining room set up as it would have been for large dinner parties, the throne room and samples of clothing worn in the past. We asked really insightful questions to our tour guide to learn even more about the role of Dublin Castle in Irish history. 

We worked in teams to create our own sports. We presented them and demonstrated them to the class. Who knows- maybe you'll see some of these sports in future Olympic Games!

Despite the weather, Fifth Class had a great day on our school tour to Emerald Park on Thursday, the 12th of June. The children had a jam-packed day of fun, excitement, and adventures.

This year, some Fifth Class pupils became Dream Space Ambassadors, completing virtual STEM training with the Dream Space team. They then led STEM learning in our school, mentoring peers and supporting teachers. To celebrate their fantastic commitment, they attended a graduation ceremony and activity day, marking the success of their work in promoting STEM education in our school community.

We were so proud to see the children present their final projects to other classes and parents. Each group demonstrated fantastic teamwork, critical thinking, and compassion as they shared their innovative ideas.
It was a wonderful celebration of all they have learned and a clear reflection of the children's hard work and creativity.

We got moving with rugby and cricket sessions, and we also had the opportunity to help run the parachute activity for 1st Class. We wrapped up the week with a fun-filled Sports Day. It was a brilliant week packed with energy, teamwork, and lots of active fun!

This week, 5th Class Green took part in a litter pick around the school grounds. We worked together to help keep our school clean and tidy. It was a great way to show care for our environment and take pride in our school community. 

This term, everyone in 5th Class Green embarked on their STEMpathy journey. This exciting project blends science, technology, engineering, maths to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges, all driven by empathy and creativity, and we are eagerly looking forward to presenting our final projects!

On the 6th of March, we celebrated World Book Day with a fun Book Buffet to encourage reading for pleasure. Everyone got to ‘taste’ some of their favourite books and discover new ones in a relaxed, enjoyable way. It was a great chance to dive into different genres!

​This term in PE, we got the chance to participate in a variety of athletics events with Niamh from SDCC, where we developed new skills that we can use in future athletic activities. We also explored balance through gymnastics, working in pairs and small groups to improve our skills.

We joined in the fun for Crazy Day by dressing in funny outfits, bringing anything but a bag, and strutting our stuff on the catwalk during the Esker ETNS fashion show. The day kicked off with a surprise when we walked into our classroom, which was completely upside down!

​We celebrated Maths Week by exploring exciting and interactive ways to engage with math. We played board games to practice our addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and even got creative by building 3D shapes using spaghetti and marshmallows! It was a week full of fun, teamwork, and hands-on learning.

Students also learnt about the weather, explored its changing impact on a nature walk, and made DIY windmills. We also won the Golden Boot award for Walking on Wednesdays! ​
