A special thank you from Seona to all of the children in 2nd Red and their parents for all the well wishes I received ahead of getting married a couple of weeks ago! Thank you so much for the beautiful flowers and gift! It was so kind and thoughtful and much appreciated :)
Welcome to 2nd Class Red's class blog! We hope you enjoy having a look at what's happening in our busy classroom :)
This week we were very lucky to receive our brand new maths packs! Linda organised this for us as part of Maths Week 2021. There are lots of things included in our pack including a hundred square, snakes and ladders, counters, dice, a deck of cards and maths vocabulary! Every Thursday we have our maths pack for homework and we get to choose a game to play with a family member at home.
We were also working hard at our maths stations this week. We were learning about sequencing and skip counting as well as playing some games to help us remember our addition facts. We love maths! Planting At the beginning of this month the children in 2nd Class red planted a variety of vegetables such as peas, beetroot, tomatoes and mixed leaves. Over the course of the month we have been waiting, watching and watering them everyday, hoping to see some growth. I am delighted to say that we now have a small vegetable garden flourishing in our classroom! Measuring Metres This month we were learning about length in maths. As we had a little bit of nice weather, we took our learning outside to measure items that were more or less than a metre (including measuring our teacher!) Titanic, Floating and Sinking This month we spent some time exploring the history of the Titanic and it's passengers. The children also had a great time investigating which objects/materials float or sink!
The children had great fun celebrating Lá Glas and were all dressed to impress! As it was such a nice day, 2nd Class Red did some work on recycling outside. We enjoyed some popcorn while we we working too! (We all remembered to bring our wrappers with us to keep the school litter free!) It was World Bee Day on the 20th May this year. To mark the occasion, we wrote some lovely acrostic poems about the honey bee! Check them out! Hi everyone, Happy Friday! Click the link below for your suggested activities for today. I've also attached some Easter egg colouring sheets if you'd like to get creative :) Can you believe we've reached the end of another term! I know this is a bit strange and not the kind of last day of term we had imagined. I remember some of you asking me back in February if we would be having a party on the last day of term...! So we will have to postpone that until we return to school and have a 'Back to School' party instead!
There won't be any work or activities posted over the next two weeks. This is the start of a holiday for you and you deserve the break after working so hard over the last few weeks. Take this time to have some fun, spend some more quality time with your family and relax. After the break, I will be posting all of your work on SeeSaw so make sure you have yourself set up on that and ready to go! Your parents will receive an email today all about that. If you would like to continue your learning over the holidays I would recommend the following two apps which you can download from the App Store or access online; 1. Duolingo https://www.duolingo.com/ 2. Khan Academy https://www.khanacademy.org/ Make sure you check out our virtual assembly today and a big well done to all of you who entered Catherine's story competition. She said the standard was very high from our class so really well done :) I'll be thinking of you all over the Easter holidays and wish you all a happy and healthy break. Mind yourselves and your families and stay safe. Best wishes, Seona Hi everyone!
