Michelle from Composting in Schools paid us a visit and brought some little friends from Donegal with her. We're very excited to have our very first wormery at Esker. We're using food waste from the staff compost bins to feed our worms, as they help us to create compost for our raised beds.
The green school committee are taking turns to feed the worms and making sure that the adults in the building are putting the correct food (teabags, fruit and uncooked veg) in the compost bin!
Biodiversity Flag Raising Ceremony
We got a very important letter from Green Schools in June, informing us that we had been awarded our 5th Green School flag! This is a phenomenal achievement for our school. The Green School Committee have worked really hard over the last 2 years, conducting an environmental review, devising an action plan, monitoring and evaluating our progress, informing our school community and the wider world about the importance of protecting and developing biodiversity at home, at school and beyond. We are thrilled that we have now been awarded a total of 5 GREEN SCHOOL AWARDS!
Our new flag represents all 5 awards in 5 different colours for the following: 1.litter and waste, 2.energy, 3.water, 4.transport and 5.biodiversity.
A huge thank you to everyone who got involved in Green Schools since we began, over 10 years ago! Well done!
