On the 16th of March, it was our turn to perform at the school assembly. We told the story of St Patrick and shared how St Patrick's day is celebrated around the world. We had so much fun! Check out the videos below! We are becoming amazing artists in 2nd Class Green. Check out some of our most recent artwork. ![]() In history, we have been learning about the Titanic. We decided to use pencil, paint and chalk pastels to create our own pictures of the Titanic. ![]() We have been exploring and appreciating the work of artist Claude Monet. We created our own interpretations of his famous piece called: Waterlilies and the Japanese Bridge. ![]() In Science, we have been learning about the life cycle of a frog. We thought it would be fun to draw some frogs! It has been a busy and exciting first term in 2nd Class Green. We re-joined our friends after the summer holidays and got to know our new teacher. We have been very busy learning about autumn, getting outside and exploring amongst the autumn trees and leaves. We have been doing lots of active learning especially in math. At our maths stations, we have been playing fun games and completing math activities. We have been making sure to keep active everyday both inside and outside of the classroom. In PE, we are currently developing our ball skills. Keep an eye on our blog for more updates on what we are doing in 2nd Class Green throughout the year!
During September we got to know each other by focusing our learning around the theme of 'The Birthday Party'. We practiced saying the date of our birthday, revising the months of the year, days of the week and using the calendar. We got creative making origami using the language of ordinal number, first to tenth, while also making bunting and party hats for our role play area. For the month of October we got to learn about the different types of houses through the theme of 'The Estate Agents'. We've also being practicing our chest passes in PE, going on autumn walks, learning coding through Scratch and taking part in fun Music Generation activities every Wednesday where we learn to use percussion instruments. Welcome back after our spring break! On Thursday 22nd April it was World Earth Day and to celebrate this we performed at last weeks junior assembly. You can check it out here! Story Writing Competition
I would love you all to take part in the story writing competition that Catherine has announced on Aladdin. There will be one winner from every class and there will be prizes when we get back to school. When you have finished writing your story you should email it to Catherine. Include your name and your class (i.e first class green). Her email address is Catherine.hare2@gmail.com. If you don’t have anything to type your story on, you can write it on a piece of paper, take a photograph of it and email the photo. Make sure your writing is very neat and the photo is clear. You have to send your stories by Thursday 2nd April. The winners will be announced on Friday 3rd April. For Pancake Tuesday, we each brought in €2 and got a pancake and a topping of our choice! The money collected was donated to the Australian Bushfires Appeal. We were glad we could play our part in helping in a small way. Fé mar a deirtear: "Ní neart go cur le chéile" - there is no strength without unity!
Thank you to all those who were involved in organising such a wonderful morning (PTA, Green School Committee and Student Council). |
