4th Class Red had a brilliant time celebrating World Book Day on the 6th of March. The class enjoyed Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) time, a book themed table quiz as well as lots of fun book inspired Art. 

Well done to all the children that took part in the writing a book review competition. The standard of book review was very high. A special well done to Ziyad who wrote an excellent book review about 'Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban' and won a book voucher. Congratulations! 

STEM Workshop: 
4th class Red really enjoyed a STEM workshop by the Steam Arts this term. The children learned about lots of interesting things about robotics, science and art. 

Meal Planning: 
The children took part in a meal planning activity using shopping magazines as part of their learning about money. The children chose what ingredients they would buy, what their budget would be, and calculated their change. Try this activity at home! 

Seachtain na Gaeilge: 
The children really enjoyed taking part in lots Gaeilge activities this week as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge. Everyone made such an effort to speak more Irish. The children also took part in Lá Glas, a céile and a ceolchoirm. Well done everyone! 

Mighty Oaks:   4th Class Red have been taking part in the Mighty Oaks Public Speaking programme and have been learning all the necessary skills needed in order to be a good storyteller. The children have been really enjoying writing and telling stories. 

Halloween Celebrations:  4th Red took part in a number of events to celebrate Halloween before the midterm break. The class took part in a Halloween quiz, a local field trip to St Finian's Church and the annual Esker Halloween parade. The week was finished off with a Halloween party to celebrate the excellent work done during the term. 

Say Yes to Languages:  The children have been taking part in Spanish classes with Marie Terese this term as part of the ‘Say Yes to Languages’ programme. The children have enjoyed hands-on Spanish activities and have been learning useful Spanish phrases. 

Learn Together Assembly:  The children led a Learn Together Assembly about the Value of Respect. The performance included poetry, singing, dancing, acting and art. Our performance is posted on our website if you would like to see it. A big well done to all the children for their excellent participation!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory:  The children really enjoyed our novel for this term ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl. The children had some excellent opinions and thoughts about the classic story. Our learning about chocolate didn’t stop there. The children enjoyed a ‘History of Chocolate' project, made chocolate biscuit cake in science, and enjoyed an end of term treat of hot chocolate and biscuits.
