Kindness WeekHi! My name is Fabian and I am a member of 5th class Green. This week was kindness week. We have learned lots of ways that we can be kind to our friends!
Whole-school assembly: On Tuesday we had a whole school assembly. We don't usually have an assembly on a Tuesday, but we had one to talk about kindness week and internet safety. After the assembly we learned how to sign hello in lámh sign language and we discussed a kindness quote in circle time. Buddy Walk: On Wednesday we did our circle time and we learned how to sign ‘goodbye’ in lámh. Then we went to the yard and we went on a buddy walk with First Class Green. It was great fun and it was so funny hearing about what other people's little buddies talked about afterwards. My partner kept skipping other people and it was very difficult to catch up but it was so funny. I really enjoyed getting to know another class in our school. Kindness homework: On Thursday We did our morning routine like any other day, then we did circle time and learned how to sign ‘thank you’. Then we watched a video about kindness and discussed it as a class. We also checked in about our kindness homework, which was to do 5 random acts of kindness at home. Thank you for reading my kindness journal. Fabian

MIGHTY OAKS? MORE LIKE MIGHTY FOLKS!
This term everyone in 5th Class green took part in the Public Speaking Program ‘Mighty Oaks’. This program helped us all to speak without fear in front of others and helped all the students running for Student Council and Green-school to speak with confidence. We learned the difference between a good speech and a great speech. Each week we learned a new skill about giving a speech without fear. We also learned about the point of a speech, how to write a good introduction as well as your main points, and finally how to finish your speech strong and leave an impact. The newly elected Green-school and Student council will be sure to Stand tall and speak with confidence this coming year. MATHS WEEK This term we also had Maths week. Activities included a maths treasure hunt, a scavenger game where you scan a picture and it asked you a variety of maths questions, as well as the annual students and parent’s maths quiz. The maths scavenger hunt was definitely my favourite activity that week. HALLOWEEN FUN During this term it was October, you know what that means IT WAS HALLOWEEN! On the last day before midterm, we did a parade, but not just any parade it was a double up! That means each senior class was paired with a junior class and they would walk together. Even with all of these fun celebrations, our teacher Tara and many other teachers gave us loads of sweets. That day was one of the best Halloweens this school has done in all my time in Esker! Written by Ross 5th Green. Good morning everyone, Happy Friday and I hope you are all looking forward to your Easter holidays, even if they will be slightly different this year. I'm sure everybody will be delighted to know that the Writing Wall of Fame is still going!
Here is a message from Catherine: Hello everyone, I hope you are all well and are not feeling too bored. I’m feeling a bit bored and I would like to have something interesting to read, so I decided to have a story writing competition. There will be one winner from every class and there will be prizes when we get back to school. When you have finished writing your story you should email it to me. My email address is [email protected]. If you don’t have anything to type your story on, you can write it on a piece of paper, take a photograph of it and email the photo to me. Make sure your writing is very neat and the photo is clear, otherwise I won’t be able to read it. You have to send me your stories by Thursday 2nd April. I will read them all and announce the winners on Friday 3rd April. Please only send me one story each. I won’t have time to read more than that. Before you write your story, please read the tips for writing stories at the bottom of the page. These are what I will be thinking about when I’m choosing the winners of the competition. Here are the rules of the competition. Read them carefully. Have fun! Use your imagination! I’m looking forward to reading your stories. Remember –it’s really important that you write your name and your class at the top of your story. 3rd and 4th class. Your story should be 300-400 words long. You can write about anything you like, but if you can’t think of an idea, start with this line: I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Tips for Writing Stories. 1.If you are not typing, make sure your writing is neat, otherwise I won’t be able to read what you’ve written. 2. Always make a plan for your story before you start writing. Think of what happens in the beginning, the middle and the ending before you start. 3. In your story the main character should have some kind of problem they have to solve. For example, they could be lost, they could be on a boat that starts to sink, there could be a dragon scaring the people in the town where they live. 3. You should try to use interesting vocabulary. For example, shouted, whispered, squeaked, instead of said. 4. When you finish writing, go back and read through what you have written. Are there any mistakes? Can you fix anything, make it clearer or more interesting? 5.Don’t forget to write about what your characters are feeling and thinking. Why do they decide to do what they do in the story? How do they react to the things that happen to them? 6. Make your first few lines very interesting, so that I will want to continue reading. 7. Make sure you think of a good, interesting ending for your story. Good luck, Catherine |
