We were so happy to find out that we had won the 'Junior Golden Boot' at our assembly which meant that we had the most children that week who had walked, cycled, scooted or came to school in a sustainable way.
To top it off we also were the 'Eco-Class of the Month' which meant that we were sorting out rubbish properly into the correct bins, trying to reduce waste and making good choices in helping our planet. We won a prize of jigsaws and games that we get to play with for the month! Let's hope we keep this up and continue to make sustainable choices for our planet! So proud!! In PE we have started our Gymnastics strand this month. Here is us practising how to 'rock and roll'. We were working rolling like a pin and in a curled/tucked up shape.
We did a Science Experiment this week where we looked at how raisins and carbonated water react. First we drew our predictions of what would happen the raisins when they were put into the 'fizzy drink'. We watched as the raisins began to dance! It's a great one to try at home with our budding scientists!
As part of our history lesson this week we read a story called 'Where's My Teddy?'. We brought in our own teddies that we have had since we were little. We compared some of the toys that we play with now and that we wouldn't have been able to play with as a baby. Our teddies were so good at listening to the story!
Making sets of four this week during Maths stations. We used lots of different objects to make our sets!
We are loving our new Aistear Theme for January- The Doctor's Surgery. We have been in role as doctors, patients, nurses, pharmacists and receptionists. There has been lots of broken bones, tummy aches, earaches and a need for injections! We also have had our Doctor's Surgery in the small world where we designed our own Doctor's Surgery. We had waiting rooms for the patients, a doctors bed so the doctor could look after the patient and a reception area. We even built hospitals and tall towers in the construction area. Check out the lanterns that we made in preparation for our first ever Ethical Assembly Performance! We sang a song about Chinese New Year and taught the classes about things people do to prepare for the Lunar New Year.
Ask us: Why is red an important colour for Chinese & Vietnamese New Year? Our Aistear Theme is The Construction Site.
We have been acting as an architect, builders and customers who would like to build a house. In our construction area we have been building interesting towers, houses and apartments! Our small world group have been working on our table top activities using the machinery we use in a construction site such as bulldozer, dump truck, excavator and cranes. A big thank you for those of you who let us borrow your toys! Check out the Yellow tables super teamwork! They worked together to make an apartment. It even had a trap to stop Zombies getting into the people's homes! Look at us working with our BeeBot! It has been great fun getting the BeeBot to move to our friends. We have been introducing the words 'programming' and 'algorithm'. We have been doing a fun dance to remember which is our left and right!
