The Winter Solstice is an annual event that marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year. It is the time when the sun's rays reach the farthest north or south of the equator, and the days start to get longer again. Celebrations of this special event have been held since ancient times, as people all around the world observe it in different ways. We decided to teach the rest of Esker about this at our assembly performance.

What a busy and wonderful start to the school year. We have had a great time settling in to 4th Class and getting to know each other. We have been working really hard and learning lots.
We have learned so much already in English, Irish and Maths as well as doing cool science experiments and SESE projects. We have been very lucky to get to go to swimming lessons and to have basketball players come to our school to give us coaching as well as Musicians from Music generation to come to our class to teach us percussion. We also had a visit from Niall de Burca the fabulous storyteller. We did our own wonderful performance at the school's senior Assembly which showed what we had learned about from our Learn Together curriculum. The whole also had a great World Culture day which was a massive success. Last week we got two new class fish and we named them Floppy and Nemo. Check out some of our photos to see for yourselves :) This term we have been working hard on project work. The students in 3rd red learned all about sea creatures. They then completed their own research on a sea creature of their choice and presented their work to the rest of the class. Have a look at some of our work!!
We had great fun on Friday 23rd October to celebrate Halloween and all the amazing work we did in our first two months back to school. Lots of us dressed up in costumes - some scarier than others - and we enjoyed a party! We were also thrilled to win the Halloween door decorating competition!!
We love art! In September and October we explored the colour wheel and learned about warm and cold colours. Check out our colour wheel umbrellas and sunrise over the sea paintings. In November we were inspired by the autumn colours outside and painted an autumn scene - the trees on the bottom are reflections in the water!
Welcome to our school website and our class blog! We will post updates about what we are learning about and what's happening in our classroom!
Look at this absolutely fabulous work I have been sent today. It has made my day! Can you guess who did it? I look forward to connecting with you all on Seesaw after the break and hopefully seeing more of your wonderful work!
