Fáilte romhaibh to all of our Parents, Guardians, and members of the Esker School Community. As spring brings brighter days and new energy, our school has been alive with creativity, kindness, and curiosity. This term has truly highlighted the values we cherish—generosity, empathy, understanding, and a strong work ethic. From imaginative classroom projects to the steady commitment shown in daily learning, our pupils continue to make us incredibly proud. We are delighted to share that there has been a marked improvement in attendance and punctuality during our recent attendance drive. A huge well done to all the children—and to families—for the fantastic effort. It has made a meaningful difference to teaching, learning, and the smooth running of our school days. Another highlight this term was our successful Curriculum Inspection in Physical Education. The children were wonderful ambassadors for the school, showcasing their favourite ways to move and demonstrating the joy and confidence that sports of all varieties brings to daily life in Esker. The children demonstrated respect for each other and staff along with inclusive practice and a sense of fair play. Lots of very good teaching and learning was observed. Well done to everyone involved. We look forward to sharing the full report with you on our school website. Our spring term has also been enriched by exciting trips, vibrant clubs, and celebrations of different religious belief festivals that deepen our sense of community and respect. A special moment for everyone was Seachtain na Gaeilge, where the whole school embraced the Irish language and culture through language music, dance, games, and storytelling with Niall de Burca. As you read through this newsletter, we hope you feel the same pride we do in all that our pupils have achieved. They continue to make our school a warm, joyful, and inspiring place to learn and grow. As ever a huge thank you to the most incredible staff who turn up each day with the same enthusiasm and care for the children. Thank you to all of our families who support us in everything and encourage your children to work hard and to have strong values. Our Educate Together ethos is reflected through our values and we try to focus on the importance of upholding these values in our day-to-day lives. You can watch our Learn Together Assembly performances on our school website under the ->Initiatives ->Learn Together Assemblies tab. Seachtain na Gaeilge Seachtain na Gaeilge was a spectacular success this year, bringing a vibrant energy to every corner of the school. School Sports Sports play a huge part in the life of Esker ETNS. We have an Active committee who work to promote all things physical and individual teachers lead a wide variety of sports initiatives. There is something to suit all tastes and interests. Over the last term children from different classes have had the opportunity to try out many different physical activities such as swimming, football, rugby, badminton and basketball. We have teamed up with local schools in our area to encourage more local sports participation. We attended a basketball event hosted by Lucan East Educate Together on January 30th. Secondary school students came from Griffeen Community College to act as referees and there was a special guest appearance from Danielle from Liffey Celtics Women’s squad. We had a Cross Country event in Griffeen Park on March 9th. We had 12 representatives from 6th class and 12 from 5th class. The students ran with many other schools under their class group. It was such an encouraging event for future athletic events and really gave all students involved a great level of motivation for running and outdoor events. We also met Niamh who ran our athletics last year and she was delighted to see us participating. At the moment, Deirdre and the Esker Athletics team are busy training for the Community Games which takes place in Santry in May. We look forward to celebrating their participation and cheering them on! After School Activities As always, teachers offered a range of after school activities this term, and we are very grateful to them for doing so. After-school activities or ECAs offer children an opportunity to develop new or existing interests, and it greatly contributes to their personal and social development. This term the children enjoyed Arts and Crafts, Sports and Games, Variety Club, Junk Art and Construction and Quiz and Kahoot. Staff training
Continuous learning and professional development are central to ensuring our staff can provide the highest quality teaching and support for all students. This term, we dedicated a school closure day to staff training in the new Curriculum Framework with Oide, which will begin to be implemented from September 2026. We were also fortunate to welcome Niamh from Oide, who is currently on secondment, to guide us through the updates in the new Maths Curriculum. In addition, our NEPS psychologist, Jane, joined us to deepen our understanding of emotional regulation and trauma‑informed practice. These opportunities allow our team to stay informed, skilled, and confident as we work to meet the evolving needs of our learners. We engaged in Mindful based Stress reduction with Loretta - who guided us through techniques for grounding, breaking and being grateful and in the moment. We upskilled in our Ceili skills and staff shared their skills and knowledge at teach meets during staff meetings. Attendance / punctuality drive Leah, our HSCL teacher, led a highly successful Attendance and Punctuality Drive throughout the month of March. Establishing a strong daily routine, maintaining consistency, and attending school whenever students are well are all key indicators of positive engagement and long‑term success in education. We extend our thanks to all students and parents for their commitment, as we observed a significant improvement in both attendance and punctuality during the initiative. Many students reported practical strategies that helped them arrive on time, such as getting up earlier, preparing clothes the night before, avoiding screens in the morning, and leaving home earlier to allow for traffic. These are excellent habits that contribute to smoother, more settled starts to the school day. Several classes earned nights of no homework in recognition of their efforts, and our most improved group received €50 to purchase games for their classroom. We congratulate everyone involved and encourage all families to continue prioritising strong attendance and punctuality for the remainder of the year. And finally ... The holidays are here, the clocks have gone forward, the days are longer and brighter and there is a feeling of Spring in the air, after what seems to have been a particularly long, wet winter. We would like to wish all of our families and friends well for the holiday season, and Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate the festival. We look forward to seeing all our students back bright and refreshed on Monday 13th April for another busy and action packed term. With good wishes from Gemma and all the staff of Esker ETNS Follow us on instagram @eskeretns to keep up with all the goings on in Esker.

The values we’ve focussed on so far this year are kindness, responsibility, respect and helpfulness. Our Educate Together ethos is reflected through our values and we try to focus on the importance of upholding these values in our day-to-day lives. You can watch our Learn Together Assembly performances on our school website under the ->Initiatives ->Learn Together Assemblies tab. Thank you for all your support this term! Wishing you all a restful and peaceful break!
Greetings to all our parents, guardians, and members of the wider school community, and welcome back for the final term of the school year. Our newsletter for Term 2 is slightly delayed this year—our fabulous musical The Jungle Book took up everyone’s time and attention! Many thanks to all the family and friends who came to support the show. Although we experienced some technical difficulties on the first night, everyone was delighted with how the performance was received, and Night 2 was declared a triumph! It showcased the talents of many budding actors, dancers, and singers, as well as the fantastic collaborative spirit of our entire school staff, who all pitched in to help. This was our first musical production since Mary Poppins in 2016, and we hope to re-establish the tradition over the coming years. Congratulations and well done to all involved! The Jungle Book Cast 2025 Celebrating community and culture! It was another busy term, with lots happening, including some important community occasions. The country marked our national festival—St. Patrick’s Day. Many of our families observed Ramadan and celebrated Eid, while others celebrated Easter. These occasions were recognised in school, along with many other activities. Continue reading for just a small selection of these. CLOVER READING: Junior Infants Red and Green - Ellen and LouiseThis term, we began the CLOVER Reading initiative—a project supported by the South Dublin Library Service and run in Junior Infants each year. It is designed to foster a love of reading and involves parents coming into class to read aloud to the children. We had a wonderful turnout of parents, and the children loved seeing their mums and dads in school, sharing stories with the class. Louise & Ellen. OUUTER SPACE! Senior infants Red - BrídSenior Infants Red were learning all about Space! Our role-play area was transformed into a spaceship, where we blasted off on imaginative adventures to the moon, Mars, and beyond! We created spaceships out of Polydrons. The children loved exploring what life might be like in space and discovering fun facts about the solar system. It was an out-of-this-world experience! Bríd Fire Stations to Football! Senior Infants Green - MichelleSenior Infants Green have had a very busy few weeks. They are currently taking part in weekly Gaelic football lessons with Shane from Westmanstown GAA Club. During these sessions, they are learning lots of new football skills. Our theme for the month of January was The Restaurant. The children engaged enthusiastically with this topic and learned all about different types of food. In February, our theme was The Fire Station. The children explored the role of a firefighter, as well as learning about other emergency services in Ireland. Senior Infants Green made a fantastic effort this week to speak lots of Gaeilge (Irish) for Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Week), and they had great fun dancing in the Céilí Mór (Big Dance) on Lá Glas (Green Day). Well done, Senior Infants Green! Michelle Spring Time! First Class Red - Tania1st Class Red have had a great second term! With the arrival of brighter, drier weather, we’ve been making the most of our time both indoors and outdoors. We’ve been learning all about spring—spotting signs of the season and learning how plants grow. The children have explored the life cycles of plants and animals and created beautiful spring-themed artwork to brighten up our classroom. There’s a real sense of excitement as we watch nature come to life all around us! Tania Upside down day! First Class Red - Shannon1st Class had a crazy and fun-filled day on Friday, 7th March—everything was upside down! From backwards clothes to topsy-turvy routines, the class fully embraced the silliness and had lots of laughs. In the weeks leading up to it, we had been busy learning about Places during February and Spring in March. The children enjoyed exploring different environments and noticing seasonal changes, which inspired creative writing, art, and discussion. Our upside-down day was a great way to celebrate all their hard work! Shannon Rugby skills! Second Class Red - AislingThis term, 2nd Class Red had the opportunity to take part in a series of rugby lessons led by Luke from Barnhall Rugby Club. The children were introduced to the basic skills of rugby and played fun games to develop these skills. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed the lessons, and some have even gone on to join local rugby clubs outside of school. Barnhall Rugby Club runs coaching sessions for children on Saturday mornings at their club in Leixlip and is always looking for new members. They can be contacted through their website: https://mubarnhall.com/ Spring Adventures! Second Class Green - Síne2nd Class Green have been enjoying the school grounds. We searched for signs of spring in the Fairy Garden, discovering many beautiful flowers and trees. We then explored the Forest Area, working together to solve questions on a Ramadan Scavenger Hunt. We had great fun getting out into the sunshine and working with our friends! Sine Messy Science Fun! Third Class Red - LindaWe had a very messy but fun science lesson last month in 3rd class red. We made oobleck by combining cornstarch, water and food colouring. This results in creating a non Newtonian liquid so it behaves like a liquid when disturbed slowly but turns solid when squeezed or hit with your hand.
