in October was a busy month in Junior Infants! Our Aistear Theme was 'The Supermarket'. The children were in role in the role play area as shop keepers, customers, shop assistants and managers. We also built some supermarkets in the construction area and told our friends where you would find bananas, marshmallows and sweets. Some of us even included hand sanitizers at the entrance to our supermarkets! Before the customers went shopping, they wrote their shopping lists of what they wanted to buy. When they went to the checkout they made sure they had everything on their list! We made some Autumn leaves paintings as well as using fruit and vegetables to do some printing! We also made some Autumn leaves rubbings with crayons! Before we began our art, we sorted the leaves by colour ! Fine Motor Skills
We have been working on our fine motor skills in Junior Infants which is so important to help develop the muscles in our hands! Some ways we have been developing our fine motor skills is through threading, using tweezers to pick up pom poms and putting pegs into peg boards! We have been doing these activities as part of our Maths and Literacy stations! Hi everyone! We have been settling in so well to Junior Infants. Take a look at some of the fun things we have been up to since starting school! Aistear One of the things we loved doing each day in our first few days of school was Aistear, which is where we learn through play! In September, we were learning about the theme of 'The Home'. We have five different stations and we get a turn with our group in each station. This is where we practise working as part of a team, using our problem solving skills and including the vocabulary we have learned about our theme. In our role play area we took turns being in role as mums, dads, brothers, sisters and we had various jobs to do in the home such as making the dinner in the kitchen, setting the table or relaxing in front of the TV! I think the role play was our favourite area in September. We built some interesting homes and castles, worked together to make jigsaws and we painted some pictures and even played in the sand pit for our sensory play area! The boys and girls have been working super hard on their Early Mathematical Activities (EMA). Here we have been sorting items into sets, making patterns and playing turn taking games. We started with sorting random objects into a set and we moved on to sorting by colour, shape, size and thickness! It has been fun using lots of hands on materials! We have been doing some Cosmic Kids Yoga! As we are trying hard to stick to our 'pods' the spots on the floor have been great for helping us to practise our social distancing from each other but also still getting to do fun activities!
