It is time to say goodbye to the butterflies. I will be sad to see them go but know they will have lots of fun exploring the world and feeding on lovely plants!
​The red colour on the tissue you see is actually meconium which the liquid the butterflies released when they stretched their wings then they came out of their chrysalides.

Slán butterflies!! You never know you might see one of them flying if you go for your walk in Lucan!

It is almost time to let the butterflies explore the world! They have been snacking on flowers, nectar and cut up apples! 
I got some great name suggestions:

Peter, Zizi, Mimi, Fify, Lizy, Dora, Sugar, Esker, Flyer, Flutter, Dave and Aoife!!

Some exciting news!!
Our caterpillars have turned into butterflies today. Here is a picture of them on the 4th of March when we met them first! Can you spot them?!! There are 5 in total.

The caterpillars then climbed up to the lid of their home (the pot) and hung in a j shape. This is where the magic happens!!! The caterpillars shed their exoskeletons one last time and hardened into their chrysalides. After a few days they were ready to move into their hatching habitat.

Today two of our butterflies have hatched! Can you see them? Now they will be fed with water and sugar mixed together to make nectar. The nectar will be sprinkled on the flowers each day. The butterflies also will feed on slices of fruit because they like the juice!

We had been working hard on our new theme of 'The Garden Centre' in Aistear before the school closures. Here we were printing 'tulips' using forks, using compost in our sand box and planting seeds!

We were working on writing words too. We stretched out the word paying attention to what sounds we heard at the beginning, middle and end. Try this at home!

We were super excited to go to the post box to post our letters! We wrote lovely thank you letters to our parents and made sure we had our address and a stamp on our envelopes.

We waited patiently and our letters arrived within a day or two!! 

In February, we had lots of fun working in our post office in Aistear. We wrote letters and postcards to each other and we worked hard as postal workers selling stamps, TV licences, along with sorting letters and parcels and delivering them to all parts of our classroom! 

We even used our Bee Bot to deliver mail to the shops and houses. We worked together to pick a house or shop, designed an algorithm to give the Bee Bot the instructions on how to get there. We then programmed the Bee Bot with our algorithms. We used our problem-solving skills if he didn't reach his destination!!

Thanks to our Eco Committee, Green School Committee, Student Council and PTA for organising such a lovely treat in aid of the Australian Bushfires Appeal. We brought in €2 each and got a pancake and a topping of our choice! We were glad we could play our part in helping in a small way.
