The highlight of January & February for us was definitely pancake tuesday! We had been working on procedural writing in literacy, so we were able to write the steps involved in making pancakes before we started. It is clear that many students are used to baking at home!
We also learned all of the vocabulary as Gaeilge. We had a very busy winter term in 5th Class Green! The highlights were definitely having Mother Tongue Week in November and preparing for our Winter Showcase when we performed 'Wavin Flag! We have had a busy few months in 5th Green. Here's some pictures of our class projects which the students presented to the rest of their peers, a STEM project & our culture day celebrations!
We got off to a great start in 5th class Green this September. The students have settled in very well and are working great in their new class group. Our Learn Together themes this month was 'Kindness'. As part of kindness week, we went down to Senior Infants. The 5th class students were paired up with a 'buddy' from senior infants. They chatted, played and read to the younger students. All of the 5th class students showed amazing kindness towards the younger kids. They all really enjoyed themselves :) 4th Class Green have been very busy in term 3 so far. Remembering our classmates performances in the Jungle Book and dressing up for crazy day at the end of Term 2 as well.
We have presented projects on the GAA and our chosen topics. We have been working hard learning the ukulele with Karen on Wednesdays learning songs such as APT and Waka Waka. We attended a drumming workshop with Éimhin from Drumadore. We drummed, danced and told jokes, having a really enjoyable time. We are regularly singing our favourite song 'N17' by the Saw Doctors. The mobile library has been coming to us every month and we have been reading our clas novel 'Under the Hawthorn Tree.' We have really enjoyed participating in our school football tournament and hearing all about the members of our class who have made the 'Well-Done Wall. We are really looking forward to our school trip to the zoo and for sports day. 4th Class Green have had a very eventful beginning to Spring. They have had performed their Learn Together School Assembly on Perseverance, ensuring that even when things are not going their way, they are going to 'Keep on Movin'. The children have attended a talk from STEAM Academy where they got the opportunity to meet a robotic dog called 'PROX'. Some of the children have been busy working hard gardening. Also, the children dove into engaging projects on Italy where we learned facts about Italy's culture, history and cuisine. As a fun reward for all their hard work, they became chefs for a day, rolling up their sleeves to create their very own delicious pizzas in class. Erano deliziosi! The children discovered about Mount Vesuvius and made their own eruptions in the class. We have been busy speaking Irish throughout Seachtain na Gaeilge and are all very excited about our upcoming céilí. It’s been a busy term here in 4th Class Green. Between trails for Maths Week, designing rockets for Science Week and a very spooky visit to St. Finian’s Graveyard here in Lucan we are all well and truly ready for some rest & relaxation over the winter break! We performed in the Winter Showcase and highlighted the importance of kindness and gratitude. We were lucky enough to be accompanied by the Esker Teachers Band in our rendition of Band Aid’s ‘Do they know it’s christmas’. See you all in January! On the 16th of March, it was our turn to perform at the school assembly. We told the story of St Patrick and shared how St Patrick's day is celebrated around the world. We had so much fun!
