At the beginning of the school year in Fifth Class Green, we had lots of fun activities to settle into our new class, build on old friendships, and make new friendships. We took part in STEM team-building challenges, like building the tallest Harry Potter-inspired tower, and played a game of passing a ball of wool while sharing compliments. We also enjoyed a book tasting to explore different stories and discover our classmates' favourite reads. September was filled with creativity, teamwork, and laughter as we built a supportive classroom community to start the year. Spanish & Mighty OaksThis term, everyone in 5th Class Green took part in the public speaking programme Mighty Oaks. This programme helped students speak confidently and without fear in front of others—skills that came in handy during their assembly performance and when running for committee elections. The children also participated in Spanish lessons and created group posters to showcase their new language skills and vocabulary. Maths Week Fun!We celebrated Maths Week by exploring exciting and interactive ways to engage with math. We played board games to practice our addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and even got creative by building 3D shapes using spaghetti and marshmallows! It was a week full of fun, teamwork, and hands-on learning. Nature WalkStudents also learnt about the weather, explored its changing impact on a nature walk, and made DIY windmills. We also won the Golden Boot award for Walking on Wednesdays! Baking, Exploring our Senses & ScienceThis term, we had lots of fun combining learning with hands-on activities! We baked rice crispy buns while learning about procedural writing and following recipe instructions. During Halloween, we explored our senses to identify different items that represented classic Halloween symbols. For Science Week, we took part in the Skittles Challenge, experimenting and having fun while exploring science concepts.

Last week, we did our first Learn Together Assembly performance of the year. This year as we are not doing our assemblies in the hall, we recorded our performance for our assembly and it was played for the Junior Classes over Zoom.
We learned all about World Food Day, which took place on October 16th. The children learned lots of facts about World Food Day and made posters to display what they learned. Each group took on a different topic as part of World Food Day. These were: Food Waste, Saving Water, Buying Food Locally, Be a Food Hero, Meat-Free Day. They spoke about their posters and performed a rap to help us remember to be a 'Food Hero'. You can check out the performance under the Learn Together tab on the website. The children worked very hard on their performance and were great examples of showing how to be a F'ood Hero'! Welcome to our class blog! We have been having lots of fun since coming back to school. We started our year talking about affirmations and focusing on our wellbeing. We spoke about what we are good at, our strengths and we listened to the story called the Name Jar. We learned about how important our names are to us and we created our own name jars with lots of affirmations around it. Some of us read out our affirmations in front of the class! Check out our Affirmation Station! We also won the Golden Boot in our first week back! This prize is for travelling to school in a sustainable way. Our class had the most people who walked, cycled, scooted or parked and stride this week! In Art we learned about Wassily Kandinsky. We learned about how he was famous for his abstract paintings and looked at this city skyscraper painting. We spoke about how he associated colours with feelings such as red for anger, green for calm, blue for sadness etc, we created our own version of Kandinsky’s famous painting! We also mixed colours to make new colours. We also explored different lines and designs on our buildings! This year there has been great excitement at lunchtime as hot lunches have arrived in our school from Carambola! The children have selected their lunches and are trying out the different meals. Lunches can be changes by Friday midnight to have a new set of meals for the next week. They have been loving their tasty meals! You can see from the faces that they have gone down well!
We have been learning all about different families. We have learnt that families come in all shapes and sizes. Most importantly, family is when people love and take care of each other. Take a look at our video below to see the amazing work that we have been doing! 😍 Well done to 2nd Class Green who won the Golden Boot for WOW (Walk on Wednesdays)! We love taking care of the environment and each week we do our best to walk, cycle, scoot, or park and stride.
This year 2nd class Green had great fun celebrating Earth Day. We each got to plant our own seeds and we are super excited to watch our seeds sprout from the soil and turn into big plants. :)

Here's the link for the April Fool's Powerpoint, guys. I hope you learn some interesting April Fool's facts. The good news from all of this is that, for all I know, everyone has been in and on time every day for virtual school! Give yourselves a pat on the back and a bualadh bos for your excellent attendance! Who knows, when we're back there may be a few more medals handed out!
