Dear Parents,
National Parents Council Primary (NPC) would like to invite you to attend one of our FREE online interactive workshops on “Anti-bullying”, a training programme by NPC, designed to enable you to support your children regarding issues of bullying and to also inform you about the Anti-bullying Procedures in schools. Bullying is, unfortunately, a negative aspect of some children’s lives and can be a worry for many parents. Learning ways to deal with and cope with bullying situations is a key life skill that we all can develop. If you would like to learn more about preventing or addressing bullying behaviour or if you are worried about your child being bullied or bullying others, this session might be useful for you. It can give you tips on how to support your child in dealing with bullying situations. Information on the anti-bullying procedures in schools and discussion on different types of bullying, including cyber-bullying are also areas covered in the session. The sessions are taking place next week, starting Monday the 15th of November 2021, online via Zoom at 10am Monday to Friday, and 7.30pm on Monday to Thursday. These events are open to all parents. Just click on this link to register https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Anti_bullying_session_for_primary_school_parents_virtual Each session will have limited numbers for discussion and questions, and places will be offered on a first come first served basis. Please contact training@npc.ie with any queries you might have. Thanks, Linda linda@eskeretns.ie

1. Raising bilingual children in Ireland
Parents of children who speak two or more languages are often full of questions. Will my child be able to manage with the school language? Should I keep using my mother tongue or should I stop? Are three languages too much for a child? How do we make sure that all languages develop? What are the best methods for raising bilingual children? Join Dr Francesca La Morgia, director of Mother Tongues and expert in language development and bilingualism, for this interactive talk. There will be time for questions and discussion, and to share our experiences of parenting through multiple languages. Mother Tongues is a social enterprise working to promote multilingualism and intercultural dialogue in Ireland. They provide resources for families and educators in the areas of language development, bilingualism, and interculturalism. They also offer training and other networking events for professionals interested in fostering multilingualism in their setting. https://mothertongues.ie/ This event will be held in Lucan library. Closing date to apply for a place is this Friday 22nd of Oct. Looking forward to seeing you on the course, Linda linda@eskeretns.ie / 0860261061 Parents and students should apply to at least two/three schools as often children do not get a place in their first choice of school. Please be advised that school places are over subscribed in the Lucan area, so the more schools you apply to, the better chance you have of getting a place for your child. To apply you will need your child’s birth certificate and proof of address. Some schools also require a deposit, this will differ between schools. Please look at the website of each school for further information about that school and their admission policy. If you need help with the cost of uniforms and footwear for your children, you can apply for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance. https://www.gov.ie/en/service/41eb8b-back-to-school-clothing-and-footwear-allowance/ You and your child can also visit spunout.ie – a website for adolescents in Ireland about school, mental health, well-being and other related topics. The Educational Welfare Services (EWS) of the Child and Family Agency (Tusla) can help you if you are having difficulty in finding a school place for your child. You can contact the EWS on (01) 7718633 Please see leaflet attached for more details. If you have any further questions please contact me on 086 0261061 or email linda@eskeretns.ie Some absolutely stunning quilling pieces from those who took part in our parents crafting class. Big thanks to Maureen for all her knowledge and guidance on how to create the perfect piece!
Dear parents/ guardians (of children in 5th class). Applications will be open this September (2021) for your child. I strongly recommend that you apply to at least two + schools. Currently there are a limited number of secondary school places in the Lucan area, so in order to guarantee a place for your child you need to apply on time and with all necessary documents. I am sending this now to give you time to gather all your documents as you may need to look for birth certs etc. Please see leaflet attached for further details.
